3 Tips for Winter Skin Survival

Here’s a New Year’s resolution that’s easy to keep: hydrate your skin! This time of year, it may seem as if your skin goes from comfortable and healthy looking to tight and visibly dry overnight. Suddenly your traditional skin care routine just isn’t cutting it, and by midday, your powder foundation appears as dry and cakey as a desert floor. We’ve put together our top three tips to provide an all-day hydration boost and combat the harsh conditions of dry winter air.

1 – Choose a Hydrating Anti-aging product

Many anti-aging treatments include acids and other harsh ingredients that can be drying to the skin. When the weather is bitter cold, and your skin feels zapped of all moisture, these types of treatments are the last thing you want to apply. Give your skin the welcome moisture it craves with a hyaluronic acid based serum like Colorescience Anti-aging Serum.

When stripped of water, your skin is considered dehydrated. All skin types even oily skin types can become dehydrated due to weather changes and product usage. Hyaluronic acid increases the water content in the skin, helping diminish the look of fine lines and wrinkles while providing a rejuvenated, glowing appearance.

“I added this to my routine a few months ago. The smell is lovely! It just glides on the skin and gives me a beautiful glow! I feel like it wakes my skin up! It is also hydrating which I need because I live in the desert,” says Colorescience customer, Lennea.

2 – Choose a Hydrating Foundation

If you’re experiencing dryness or flakiness during the winter months, you may need to switch up your usual foundation. A hydrating liquid foundation is an excellent choice.

Colorescience Tint du Soleil SPF 30 UV Protective Foundation effortlessly glides onto the skin creating a beautiful, bare skin appearance. The creamy, yet lightweight formula gives the skin a much-needed hydration boost without feeling heavy or greasy.

“Colorescience Tint du Soleil protects the skin with an SPF 30 while nourishing it with ceramides, lipids, and vitamins. It leaves the skin with a silky texture. I warm it up in my fingertips before applying. A pea size of this foundation is enough, but can be layered for more coverage,” says Master Aesthetician, Cathleen Olson, Edina Skin Care Specialists.

If your skin is combination to oily and just dehydrated during this season, our new pressed foundation is an ideal option. Dehydrated skin is common for those with oily or acne-prone skin from the use of drying treatment products or weather changes. Indoor heaters can also zap skin of all its moisture and disrupt its natural balance. Colorescience Natural Finish Pressed Foundation SPF 20 is unique in that it’s a pressed mineral powder that includes nourishing, hydrating ingredients like carrot seed oil to create a creamy texture.

“The Natural Finish Pressed Foundation SPF 20 is a godsend for those with oily skin. It provides lightweight coverage that looks natural, not cakey. It’s also ideal for those with sensitive skin,” says Master Aesthetician, Cathleen Olson, Edina Skin Care Specialists.

3 – Refresh Your Skin Throughout the Day

Just like filling up your water bottle throughout the day to quench your thirst, you need to treat your skin to the same hydrating care. We’ve made all-day hydration hassle-free with our Hydrating Setting Mist. This fine mist is both the last step in your makeup application and the ideal way to refresh your skin every few hours.

“Colorescience Hydrating Mist is an absolute must for winter makeup. Generously spritz face when makeup application is complete to set the makeup and get that luminous look. No need to redo your makeup when going out in the evening. A couple sprays of the mist will freshen up your makeup, and you’ll be good to go,” says Master Aesthetician, Cathleen Olson, Edina Skin Care Specialists.

“I received this product as a sample in the fall and enjoyed using this during the winter months when my skin tends to be a little drier. I love that I can use this to add some extra moisture to the skin after makeup application. It can be a nice refresher mid-day, and I don’t have to worry about redoing my makeup,” says Colorescience customer, Holly.

Now you don’t have to suffer through the winter season with a dull, dehydrated complexion. A few simple changes to your skincare and makeup routine can make a world of difference.
